Good tiling is mostly in the prep and the setting out, the bits you never see once it's grouted. I make sure the wall or floor is flat and sound first, tank and waterproof wet areas like showers, then set out from the middle so you don't end up with a sliver of a cut tile in the worst spot. Bathroom walls and floors, kitchen splashbacks, feature walls and porcelain floor tiles all get the same treatment. I cut around sockets, pipes and awkward corners cleanly and seal the edges so water stays where it should. Tiling: common questions
How much does tiling cost in Nottingham?+
Tiling is usually priced by the square metre, plus the materials if I'm supplying them. The rate moves a bit depending on the tile size, the prep needed and whether it's a wall or a floor. Small mosaic and large-format tiles take longer than standard ones. I'll measure up and give you a clear price before starting.
Do you supply the tiles or do I buy them?+
Most people choose and buy their own tiles, which is fine, I'll fit them. I can also point you to a tile shop and help work out quantities so you order the right amount with a bit spare for cuts and future repairs. Either way I supply the adhesive, grout and sealant.
Do you tile bathrooms and showers?+
Yes, bathrooms are a big part of the tiling I do. Shower areas and wet walls get tanked and waterproofed before any tile goes on, which is the part that stops leaks and damp down the line. Floors, walls and splashbacks all included.
Can you tile a kitchen splashback?+
Yes. A splashback is a tidy little job that lifts a kitchen, whether it's metro tiles behind the hob or a run along the worktops. I cut around sockets and switches cleanly and seal the edges against the worktop.
Will you tile over my existing tiles?+
Sometimes, if the existing tiles are well stuck and flat, but more often it's better to take them off and start from a sound surface. Tiling over tiles can work but it builds up thickness and hides any problems underneath. I'll tell you honestly what's best for your wall.
How long does a bathroom take to tile?+
A typical bathroom is a few days depending on size, the prep and how fiddly the cuts are. Walls and a floor together take longer than walls alone. I'll give you a realistic timescale when I quote so you can plan around it.
Do you do floor tiling as well as walls?+
Yes, walls and floors. Porcelain and ceramic floor tiles, including larger format tiles that need a flat, well-prepped base. Uneven floors get levelled first so the tiles sit flat and don't rock or crack.
Can you waterproof or tank a wet room?+
Yes. Wet rooms and shower enclosures get a proper tanking system before tiling so water can't get behind the tiles. It's not worth cutting corners on, and it's a lot cheaper to do right the first time than to fix a leak later.
Do you re-grout or repair old tiling?+
Yes. If the tiles are sound but the grout's gone grubby, cracked or mouldy, I can rake it out and re-grout, and replace any loose or cracked tiles. It's a cheap way to freshen up a bathroom without a full re-tile.
