Worktops are where a kitchen lives or dies, because a bad join or a gappy edge shows every day. I template the run first, cut the worktops to follow your walls, and mason's-mitre or butt the joins so they sit tight and flush. Sinks and hobs get cut in accurately and sealed, and the back edge gets scribed to the wall so there's no gap for water and crumbs. Laminate is the practical, good-value choice and is what most kitchens use; solid timber and stone-effect surfaces are there if you want something different. If you've bought your worktops already I'll fit those, or I can supply them as part of the job.

Worktops: common questions
How much does worktop fitting cost?+
It depends on the length of the run, the number of joins and cut-outs, and the material. Laminate is the most cost-effective; solid wood and stone-effect cost more for the material. Fitting a sink and hob adds a bit of time. I price the job after measuring up so you get a clear figure, not a guess.
Do you fit worktops I've already bought?+
Yes. Plenty of people buy worktops from somewhere like Howdens, Wickes or B&Q and just need a fitter. I'll template, cut, joint and fit them, cut in your sink and hob and seal it all up. Fit-only is no problem.
What worktop materials do you fit?+
Laminate, solid timber and stone-effect (like the compact and quartz-look laminates). For genuine granite or quartz, those are templated and cut by a stone supplier, but I'll fit the units dead level and square so the stone sits right when they come.
Can you cut in a new sink and hob?+
Yes, that's part of a normal worktop job. The cut-outs are made accurately and sealed so water can't get into the worktop edge, which is the thing that swells and ruins a laminate top over time.
How do you join worktops so the join doesn't show?+
On laminate I use a mason's mitre and a worktop jig with bolts pulling the two pieces tight, then seal the join. Done properly the join sits flush and barely shows. On a straight run with no corner there's often no join at all.
Can you just replace the worktops without ripping out the kitchen?+
Usually, yes. If your units are sound, swapping just the worktops is a tidy upgrade that freshens up the whole kitchen for a fraction of a full refit. I disconnect and refit the sink and tap as part of it (plumbing connections by a plumber where needed).
How long does it take to fit worktops?+
A typical kitchen's worktops are usually a day, sometimes two if there are several joins, an upstand and a sink and hob to cut in. I'll give you a timescale when I quote.
Do you fit upstands and edging too?+
Yes. Upstands along the back, end caps and edging strips all get fitted and sealed as part of the job, so the finished run looks complete rather than left raw at the ends.
Can you fix a worktop join that's lifting or letting water in?+
Often, yes. A failed join or a gap round the sink can sometimes be re-sealed or re-bolted rather than replaced. If the laminate's already swollen from water, that section usually needs replacing, and I'll tell you straight which it is.
